What is a Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Rating?
A CFII "rating" is not a license in and of itself.
A CFII may be added to an existing CFI pilot rating only. It
allows the CFII to instruct ground school and provide flight
instruction to pilots seeking an instrument rating.
How Much Will it Cost?
The best way to minimize the cost of a CFII Rating is to combine
its costs with a CFI rating so that the training requirements
overlap. There are no true CFII minimum requirements listed
by the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's); however, to instruct
in the Robinson R44, the pilot must have a minimum of 200 flight
hours, with 50 of those hours in a Robinson R44 (or 25 hours
in a Robinson R44 if the pilot have logged 25 hours in a Robinson
R22). Lastly, the industry requires that you complete the Robinson
factory safety course.
The training costs contained
below assumes no combined curriculum. The prices listed assume
that the pilot already has a Certified Flight Instructor Rating.
For the CFI/II course it is possible
to combine "Left-Seat" instructor training practice
with your Commercial course preparation. This will produce large
savings as the flight time part of the instructor course can
be completed in the price of the Commercial.
Note: the CFII training
course requires that the student place significant effort in
the ground study portion of the training. For this reason, the
total time will vary based on the individual home study effort
provided by the student.
How Long Will it Take?
The length of time that is required to complete a CFII rating depends
largely on your ability, motivation to learn and your proficiency
with the English language. Assuming the pilot is already a CFI,
it usually takes about three weeks to complete the CFII rating
course if a reasonably full schedule is maintained.
What Will I Have to Do?
- Obtain an FAA CFI rating.
- Complete ground school or a home
study course for the certified flight instructor instrument rating.
- Log sufficient flight training
- Pass one (1) FAA written tests.
- Pass an FAA oral and flight
test.
What are the Official Flight Training
Requirements?
In order to become a CFII for the Robinson R44, the Federal Aviation
Regulations (FAR) require the following:
- At least
200 hours of helicopter flight time
- At
least 50 hours must be in a Robinson R44 helicopter (or 25
hours in a Robinson R44 if the pilot have logged 25 hours in
a Robinson R22)
- 3 hours in preparation for the flight
test
