What is a Private Helicopter Pilot License?
A private helicopter pilot license (PHPL) allows you
to fly a helicopter and carry passengers and baggage, although
not for compensation or hire. Operating expenses may be shared
with other passengers.
How Long Will it Take?
The length of time that is required to complete the Private Pilot
course depends largely on your ability, motivation to learn and
your proficiency with the English language. It usually takes
about eight weeks to complete the private pilot helicopter course
if a reasonably full schedule is maintained.

Will I Have to Do?
1. Obtain an FAA third class medical certificate
2. Complete ground school for the Robinson R-22
3. Log sufficient flight training.
4. Pass an FAA written test
5. Pass an FAA oral and flight test
FAA Requirements
Requirements for obtaining your private pilot helicopter license
are as follow:
- 40 hours minimum flight time in helicopter, including:
- 20 hours of dual flight instruction, including:
- 3 hours of dual cross-country flight
- 3 hours of night flight, including 50NM night x-country,
10 night take offs and landings
- 3 hours in preparation for the flight test
- 10 hours of solo flight time, including 3hrs of cross-country
flight, including 75NM x-country
