RatingsThe FAA considers the Instrument, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) to be "Ratings", and not licenses. These ratings may be added to an existing private or commercial pilot license. For example, The CFI rating may only be added to a Commercial Pilot license, or, an Instrument rating may be added to either a Private or Commercial Pilot license. It is important that an aspiring pilot become familiar with the requirements of each rating in order to minimize the overall cost of training. For example, if a student knows from the beginning that she wants to become a CFI, then perhaps the most cost effective strategy is to include an Instrument rating during her training so that the combined cost will be significantly less expensive than adding the Instrument rating after she obtains her CFI. Please inquire directly for a one on one explanation as we have constructed training strategies that can reduce the overall cost of your flight education.
